 Why Exercise..?

Exercising regularly has countless benefits, not only to the body, but to the mind.  It is scientifically proven that people who exercise 3-5 times per week have healthier hearts, improved circulatory systems and are less susceptable to illnesses.  Reaching a certain level of fitness will also make you more relaxed during everyday life and better enable you to handle stressful situations.  Challenging your own fitness gives you a sense of achievement that is rare in adult life, makes you feel more confident and boosts your self esteem; making day-to-day living more enjoyable and allowing you to be more open and sociable.  It's also a great way of keeping in shape and controlling your weight!

Physical activity should be undertaken alongside your exercise regime in order to stay as fit and healthy as possible.  Walking instead of driving reasonable distances or taking the stairs instead of the lift/escalator are just two examples of how we can sustain our fitness during the course of everyday life.  The lifestyle choices that we make have a huge impact on our fitness levels and it's important to try not to fall into the pitfalls of modern, easy living.  Putting a greater amount of effort into things is more rewarding and there are a multitude of ways to keep yourself fit and healthy these days.

It's important to get the right balance where exercise is concerned.  A sedentary lifestyle can have negative effects on the efficiency of many of the body's systems, as well as your stress levels, self esteem and body shape.  On the other hand, "exercise addiction" can be quite common and can be harmful if you do not allow yourself time to rest.  20-60 minutes of aerobic exercise 3-5 times per week is a good starting guidline but what counts the most is what you do with that time.  You need to raise your heart rate sufficiently to ensure that your body responds to the training, meaning that you should always be pushing yourself in order to improve and notice a training effect.  I will be able to advise you how best to spend your time when working out, the most effective exercises to use to enable you to acheive your goals and the correct intensity to work at throughout.  Contact Me if you would like more information.
